Info
Overview -
Meteor (Hoei) is a clone of Asteroids from Atari. The manufacturer is
now (5. Feb.08) confirmend to be HOEI International from Japan. The
Cocktail version and the Upright have both shown up.
Gameplay is exactly like the Atari version.
Description
- Your mission is basically to reduce the floating asteroids down to
rubble and finally dust. Each asteroid when shot breaks into two
smaller ones. As you create your destruction you must avoid enemy
flying saucers that will try and shoot you down. The saucers come in
two flavors, large and small. The large ones of course easier to hit
and are much less accurate with their lasers, while the smaller saucers
are quick and accurate (they also score 1000 points, motivation for
saucer hunting). When you clear the level, alas... more asteroids
appear, and in greater numbers.

PCB(s)
The game consists of two PCB's connected by an interconnect PCB, a
Power Supply and the XY b/w
Monitor, type TOEI Mussan. The CPU
PCB
has a
6502 CPU running at ??Mhz with 6k of ROM or the actual game and 2k of
ROM for the Vector Routines. Depending on the revision of the PCB,
these are either 8x2708 or 4x2716 EPROMs. The
6502 CPU is supported by a VSM (Vector State Machine) on the same
PCB. The VSM takes care of the vector graphics display by reading the
graphics information, deposited by the 6502 CPU into the Vector
RAM, out of this shared memory. The VSM then outputs the
graphics
information via two DAC800-CBI-V D/A converters. (Atari uses AD561J's
as D/A converters). The second PCB is the IO/Sound PCB
which contains the digital I/O circuits and the sound generation and
amplification. For pictures see here
Monitor - For the Cocktail a TOEI MUSSAN TXY
- 14A, b/w vector monitor is
used - pictures, manual.
Monitor -
The Upright has a LAI XY 20", b/w vector monitor - pictures, manual.
